New Winter Collections

October 11, 2011

We’ve been been working with a fever to add new content to our archive for the busiest time of the picture library calendar. Added to its latest archive of interiors and food images, with several thousand new images for this season, are a unique collection of Irish homes, described as quixotic and quirky, plus British interior colour palettes from Farrow & Ball. Also included are a plethora of food images mostly around homemade desserts following the hugely popular trend in this area, as well as sumptuous collections of wholesome and comforting foods for winter. In addition several uniquely themed handmade Christmas collections are new to the library, along with some interesting paper crafting projects to license.

As Isabelle Doran comments, “We’ve been actively following the latest trends in interiors with colourful styles, food with plenty of cakes and bakes, and the speedy ascension in home crafting. It all adds up to an exciting collection for this season which we’re keen for customers to explore, and next season promises to be even more inspiring, some of which will be showcased at next year’s FotoFringe event.”

To see more of the collections, got to Loupe Images either use the keywords such as: Irish and Interior, Farrow and Colour, Comfort and Food, Crumble and Food, Paper and Craft, Christmas and Drink, etc. Or simply call to speak to a researcher on +44 (0) 207 025 2249.

Keep warm and cosy!

Let’s Go Retro!

August 12, 2011

With the resurgence in crafts, hunting for bargains, and vintage finds it’s no wonder we have rediscovered an abiding passion for vintage decorations and furniture. It combines a sense of nostalgia, handcrafted pieces and recycling all in one. So we’ve put together a small selection of our favourite retro interior images and details to match, and we hope you enjoy them! For more retro images visit http://www.loupeimages.com or if you want us to search for free then just give us a call…

Finally, if you want to ensure that the images you choose aren’t syndicated to half a dozen other picture libraries then we’re the people to come to!

Enjoy!

What’s in a name?

June 2, 2011

Why are we called Loupe Images (pronounced Loop) and not Lupe or Loop Images?

A frequent question we are regularly asked by people. And so we thought we would finally reveal why, so here’s the answer…

The first part of the name ‘Loupe’ originates from the French word for magnifying glass – a device used in various industries such as watch and jewellery making, dentistry, geology etc. The photography industry use loupes (or lupes) to view transparencies or negatives on a lightbox more closely. They come in all shapes and sizes, the most well-know brands being Peak and Schneider, and are often used by photographers, picture buyers, picture editors and so on, to see the fine detail of an image before selecting it for use. The original loupe was usually placed and held within the socket of the eye as in an old fashioned monocle, but these have been replaced by handheld devices held up to the eye to view detail more closely.

A Traditional Magnifying Glass

For us the name Loupe was a wonderful way of describing our stock imagery, simply because although we have a great many high quality images of interiors, food and drink, and other lifestyle photographs, we also have a wealth of detail shots to match all imaging needs.

So the tie-in with Loupe – a magnification device, and Images – a wealth of aspirational lifestyle images and close up detail shots, was a natural choice. It was also the inspiration for our logo which has the ‘O’ shaped as a magnifying glass. And behind our slogan: ‘It’s the details that make life interesting’.

We went for Loupe Images to describe our home lifestyle picture library because of the picture perfect details that we have in our archive,  as opposed to Loop Images or Loupe Imaging, both of which exist as companies as well – the first as a british culture picture library and the second as an image retouching service. And there’s My Loupe in the US which is a generic picture agency. But we’ve recently expanded on the range by introducing craft projects to our image library, so it now consists of interiors, gardens, food & drink, health & beauty, children’s activities, occasions, and finally crafts.

Personally we think that taking time to look at life’s little details is worthwhile. If we all took a few minutes out of our day to look around and admire the beauty in even the smallest objects – it enables us to realise just how wonderfully rich life really is…

Spring is in the air at last! The sun is shining and the birds are singing, everyone is gearing up for the seasonal change, and so what could be better than a celebration of freshly cut flowers adorning our living spaces. We’ve come up with a definitive selection of some of our best interior shots of floral displays and arrangements which we hope you like. Flowers can definitely be mood enhancing whether in the home or  decorating an outside space.

The secret of cut flowers is to do the right thing to the right plant, we’ve listed a couple of examples:

  • Never mix daffodils with other flowers, they give off a compound that is toxic to them
  • Re-cut fresh flowers you’ve bought by trimming 1-2 inches off the bottom to remove air bubbles
  • Keep flowers out of direct sunlight and change the water every two days
  • Packets from the florists contains a chemical to kill bacteria (biocide), sugar and acidifier – the alternative is to add a teaspoon of sugar, a copper penny and an aspirin

You can also find more gorgeous and glorious flower displays in our picture library, so why not take a look and check out our inspiring floral bouquets…loupeimages.com

Chocolate glorious chocolate, what is it about this amazing food type? It has become not only one of the most popular food types but also flavour in the world, it can be served hot or cold, it has versatility, it is used for celebrations and occasions, the list goes on. Chocolate even has the accolade of having health benefits and as a ‘mood’ enhancer, although unconstrained consumption of large quantities can be an issue – so not too many delicious chocolate cookies. Even culturally, books and films have covered the ubiquitous food type such as Charlie & The Chocolate Factory and Chocolat.
